How to Clean CD-ROMs
CD-ROM discs offer a variety of advantages over other media formats, including portability, greater storage capacity and low copying cost. Unfortunately, the exposed nature of CD-ROM discs makes them susceptible to dirt and grime. A CD-ROM disc may skip or become unreadable if foreign particles obscure enough of the disc area. To keep your discs in optimal shape, clean them as soon as you notice any dirt or grime has accumulated.

1
Mix a few drops of non-abrasive soap with water in a small bowl to create a soap and water solution.
-
2
Moisten a corner of the soft, lint-free cloth in the soap and water solution.

3
Hold the CD-ROM by the outer edge with one hand.
-
4
Wipe the moistened lint-free cloth across the exposed surface of the disc, starting from the inside of the disc and traveling in an outward direction. Do not use a circular motion, as this may create scratches in the disc surface.
-
5
Rotate the disc and continue wiping to clean the entire exposed surface area of the CD-ROM.
-
6
Wipe away the moisture from the disc using the same outward method with a dry section of the lint-free cloth.
-
7
Continue wiping to remove all moisture from the disc surface before attempting to insert the CD-ROM disc in your computer or CD player.
