How to Make Mini Crayon Rolls
Keeping a few crayons in your purse or diaper bag provides you with a quick and simple way to keep your children quiet while out of the house. You don't need to stash a 64-pack of crayons to keep your children entertained. Instead, pack just five crayons, red, green, blue, yellow and black, in a homemade mini crayon roll to keep your purse or diaper bag uncluttered and your children busy.
Things You'll Need
- 1/8 yard wool felt
- Ruler
- Scissors
- 1/4-inch-wide ribbon
- Straight pins
- Sewing machine

1
Cut a 4 1/4-inch-square piece of wool felt for the backing piece of the mini crayon roll. Cut another piece of felt, this one 4 1/4 by 3 inches for the pocket.
-
2
Cut an 18-inch-long piece of 1/4-inch-wide ribbon to create the ties for the crayon roll. Fold the ribbon in half.
-
-
3
Lay the felt square on your work surface. Place 1/2 inch of the folded end of the ribbon on the right edge of the square centered between the top and bottom edge. Lay the 3-by-4 1/4-inch rectangle of felt on the square and ribbon so the bottom edge of the rectangle lines up with the bottom edge of the square. Pin all the layers together.
-
4
Sew along the side and bottom edges of the felt rectangle with a 1/4-inch seam allowance. This will hold the pocket – rectangle – to the back – square – while also attaching the ribbon ties.
-
5
Sew vertical seams from the top to the bottom edge of the felt rectangle every 3/4 inch between the left and right seams you just sewed. This creates five little crayon-sized pockets.
-
6
Place a crayon in each pocket, roll the holder toward the edge with the ribbon ties and tie the ribbons around the roll to hold it.
