How to Make Tri-Fold Brochures on Microsoft for Mac
Microsoft Word for Macintosh allows you to make tri-fold brochures using their column and page layout tools. A tri-fold brochure can be folded after printing into a "self-mailer," which is a document that can be mailed without an enclosing envelope. Word layout tools allow you to set text direction and other formatting for this purpose.

1
Create a new Word document, then choose "Page Setup" from the "File" menu. Click on the icon for landscape layout, which rotates the page 90 degrees, then click "OK."
-
2
Select "Columns" from the "Format" menu and choose a three-column layout for the document.

3
Enter your text for the inside of the tri-fold brochure on the first page. Your text will automatically wrap around to the subsequent columns as you type. Use "Column Break" on the "Insert" menu to manually insert a break into the next column. Be sure that all of your text fits on this first page.
-
4
Enter the text for the back cover of the tri-fold on the first column of the second page. Use column breaks to skip to the last column and enter the text for the front cover there.
-
5
Click on the top of the blank middle column on the second page. Choose "Text Box" from the "Insert" menu. Then select "Text Direction" from the "Format" menu. Click on the icon to change the direction of the text in this column to horizontal. Enter your text here for the outside of your self-mailer including your return address and a space for a mailing label.
-
6
Print the document onto a double-sided sheet and fold so the front cover of the brochure faces out with the back cover folded inside of it. When the brochure is sealed or stapled the front cover of the brochure will be on one side with the other side showing the self-mailer portion of the brochure.
