How to Grow Grass From Seed for a Craft Project
Using grass seed in an arts and crafts project is a great way to introduce younger children to the plant growth process while keeping it fun and interesting. One of the most common uses for grass is as hair for the head of a sculpture. Other projects might include creating a living egg shell centerpiece or even a miniature greenhouse.

Egg Shells
-
1
Cut a piece of card stock 5 inches in length and 2 inches in width. Tape it into a circle so it can serve as a base for the egg shell.
-
2
Set the cleaned-out eggshell (with bottom two-thirds intact) open-side up into the card stock holder.
-
-
3
Fill the eggshell three-quarters of the way up with potting soil.
-
4
Sprinkle grass seed on top of the topsoil. Cover it with a light layer of soil.
-
5
Moisten the soil. Keep it moist until the seeds germinate, which should take no more than three days.
-
6
Place the shell in full sun. Within a week the grass will have sprouted and grown past the top of the egg shell.
Hairy People Cups
-
7
Draw a face on a paper cup with markers.
-
8
Fill the cup three-quarters of the way with soil.
-
9
