Do not wash your collar too frequently or you could damage the leather

Although leather is a very durable material that is strong enough to restrain even a large dog, collars that are made out of leather will develop an unpleasant odor over time. Because the leather is in direct contact with the dog’s neck, it will soak up the dog’s natural scent. To clean odors out of a leather collar, use a mild soap mixed with water. Since dog collars are made of coated leather, soap and water will not stain the collar and are suitable for occasional cleaning.

Instructions

    • 1

Put a few drops of soap onto a clean rag, and then moisten the rag with warm tap water.

    • 2

Rub the collar with the cloth to distribute the soap over the surface of the cloth. Continue rubbing the cloth into the leather until you work up a lather. Be sure to do this on both the inside and outside of the collar to remove any unwanted odors.

    • 3

Rinse the cloth out to remove the soap, and then wipe the damp cloth over the surface of the collar to remove the soap residue.

    • 4

Lay the collar to dry in front of a fan. This will help remove any residual odors in the collar.
