Paper apple blossoms look much like the real flower, and are constructed from crepe paper and wire.

Apple blossoms are a symbol of spring. During the spring you will find apple blossoms decorating store windows and serving as trimmings at proms and weddings. These delicate five-petal flowers are white and pink in color. You can make your own apple blossoms with paper to serve as a springtime decoration for years to come. Instructions

  1. Creating Paper Leaves, Petals and Calyx

    • 1

Paste together pieces of light pink and white crepe paper. Also glue together pieces of dark green and light green paper for the leaves and calyx.

    • 2

Lightly draw the outline of the flower on the white and pink paper. The outline of the flower should be large, about the size of the bottom of a normal-sized drinking glass, approximately 2 inches across, as it will later be folded down. Make enough outlines for each branch to have about five to seven flowers per arm. Cut out each outline.

    • 3

Draw the outline of the leaves on the green paper. The calyx is the green part of the plant that cups the flower. Draw a diamond shape on the green paper to serve as the calyx. Draw enough calyx outlines for each flower, and enough leaves for each branch to have about 10 to 15 leaves. Cut out each outline.

    Constructing Paper Apple Blossoms

    • 4

Fashion a piece of white and pink paper around one plastic stamen, with the white side serving as the inside of the flower. Pinch the paper around the stem of the stamen and twist.

    • 5

Fashion the diamond-shaped calyx around the outside of the flower, using paste to hold it in place. The dark green side should be on the outside. Fold the ends of the diamond to stick out from the flower. You can trim the points down if they are too large. Pinch the paper around the stem and twist.

    • 6

Cut a small length of green wire and attach it to the twisted stem of the apple blossom. Use this wire to attach the blossoms to the branch.

    • 7

Cut a small length of green wire and paste it between two or three paper leaves, alternating the dark green and light sides on top. Attach the leaves by wrapping the wire around the branch.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some craft stores have duplex crepe paper, which is white on one side and pink on the other. This will allow you to skip pasting crepe paper together. You can use fake branches from the craft store or natural branches to attach your apple blossoms.

  • If you choose to attach your paper apple blossoms to natural branches, be sure that the branches are sterilized and free from mold and bugs.
