Set one 1-by-3 that's 24 inches long on a work surface with the 1-by-24-inch side resting flat. This is the wall mount board that forms part of the bracket.

2
Position another 1-by-3-by-24-inch board on top of the wall mount board. The 3-by-24-inch side should rest flat on top of the 1-by-24-inch edge of the wall mount board. One 1-by-24-inch edge of this board should be flush with the outside edge of the wall mount board so an L shape is formed if you look at the assembly from the end. This is the shelf mount board that forms part of the bracket.

Drill a 1/8-inch-diameter hole through the center of the width of each board 2 inches in from each end, using a tape measure to accurately space the holes. Drill the holes with a drill and a 1/8-inch bit. These are the mounting holes for the L-bracket.
