How to Troubleshoot a Weak FM Tuner
An FM Tuner improves radio sound quality. If your model has Radio Data System, or RDS, the names of broadcast stations that support RDS will also be displayed when that feature is on. Weak stations distract from your listening enjoyment, but there are a few things you can do to improve a weak reception.
Instructions

1
Secure the connection to the amplifier and speakers if you do not hear any sound when the tuner is on.
-
2
Check that the "Tape Monitor" button is not pressed if you still do not hear any sound when tuned to a station.
-
-
3
Verify that the FM tuner is set to "Local" if both strong and weak signals are received. Press the "Local/DX Button" once to display the current setting. The DX setting includes weak stations in the search, so if DX is displayed, press the "Local/DX Button" again to change that setting to "Local."
-
4
Press the "Signal Strength" button on the remote control if you still receive a station with a weak signal. The signal strength of the currently tuned station is displayed. Install a stronger antenna to increase the reception of stations that show low-signal strengths.
-
5
Press the "Stereo/Mono" button on the remote control or FM tuner front panel. Set it to "Mono" to reduce background noise if you still receive weak stations. Press the "Stereo/Mono" again to return to Stereo mode on the stations where signals are strong. The display indicator shows Stereo when it is on; however, Mono is not displayed when Stereo mode is off.
-
6
Increase the volume level on the amplifier if the sound is too low. Press the "Mute" button on the amplifier once, and if you do not hear any sound, press it again and increase the volume level to bring it out from Mute.

Tips & Warnings
If your FM tuner has RDS, press the "RDS On/Off" button once to turn on the feature if the station doesn't display the tuned station's name. You'll quickly know which stations are clearest when this data is displayed. Write down the names of the weak stations that you'd like to receive clearer. This way, it'll be much easier to plan your FM tuner strengthening-station strategy.
Several FM tuners have similar steps; please refer to your product user's manual for precise steps that apply to your FM tuner model.
