How to Decorate Numbers for Kindergarten

How to Decorate Numbers for Kindergarten thumbnail
Decorating numbers can help kindergartners strengthen their counting abilities.

Identifying numbers around the house and in the classroom can give kindergartners a head start in counting and math. Decorating numbers gets kids creative while becoming familiar with numbers and their order, encouraging them to practice and learn basic math. After numbers are decorated, show off your kindergartners' work by hanging the numbers in order along the classroom wall or on the bulletin board.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover tables or desks with newspaper so the cleanup will be easy.

    • 2

Print out number coloring sheets and pass out numbers for kindergartners to decorate. Pass numbers out in order from one to 10 and then start the sequence over.

    • 3

Place colored markers, glue, sequins and glitter in a central place so that kindergartners can access it.

    • 4

Instruct kindergartners to color their numbers with marker first. When they are finished coloring they can apply glue and sequins or glitter.

    • 5

Allow at least half an hour for the glue to dry. Call on kindergartners around the room to present their number and then post their number on your bulletin board. As each student calls out his number in sequence you will have your class counting from one to 10.
