How to Dress for Interview With a Food Manufacturer
Always wear your best clothing to an interview regardless of the industry. Food manufacturing plants can be rather dirty and potentially hazardous, but the chances of you having to perform any tasks is slim. If you own a nice pair of dress shoes with non-slip soles, wear them, but do not wear casual shoes or clothes to any interview. Putting your best foot forward and making a great first impression can go a long way to landing a job in the food manufacturing industry.

1
Wear dress shoes, but if you have some with a non-slip sole, choose them over ones that may cause you to slip. Food manufacturing plants have hazardous conditions and while taking a tour, the interviewer should offer you safety equipment if necessary. Make a good impression but wear the safest shoes you own knowing the conditions of a food manufacturing plant.

2
Wear a suit jacket that matches your pants or skirt. While they do not have to be the same color, matching them is necessary as it gives you an air of professionalism and will let the interviewer you are serious about the job. Wear a jacket even if the interviewer is indifferent after asking, it is never a negative on an interview. Remove your jacket and carefully fold it in half or set on the back of a chair if you must remove it for a food manufacturing plant tour or a skills test.

Wear a long sleeve dress shirt of a complimentary color under your jacket. Button the top button when wearing a tie to prevent your ensemble from looking sloppy. Iron or have your shirt pressed for a professional look. Long sleeve shirts are the only appropriate type of shirts to wear with a jacket. Roll your sleeves up after taking off your jacket if you are asked to demonstrate a skill in the plant, but never wear a short sleeve shirt under your jacket. Wear an undershirt under your dress shirt.

4
Wear the pants or skirt that came with your suit or that matches the jacket you have worn. Regardless of the type of job you are interviewing for, a nice pair of matching dress pants will always make a good impression on the interviewer. Even if the interviewer tells you you can dress casual, wear business professional clothing including dress pants unless there is a valid reason to wear more casual pants.
-
5
Wear a matching tie with your other interviewing attire if you are a man. Pick a tie that compliments your clothing and tie it properly. The tip of the tie should be at the level of your belt buckle and no longer or shorter. Tuck your tie into your shirt of you are asked to perform a duty that may dirty the tie, but leave it on if possible.
