Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of the litter box, then determine how large you want the cabinet to be. Making the cabinet larger than the litter box gives you more space to store items on top.

    • 2

Cut two pieces of plywood to the length and depth you want for the litter box cabinet. These are the top and bottom boards for the cabinet. Cut two end pieces to the same depth but half the width. If your top and bottom pieces are 18 by 60 inches, your side pieces would be 18 by 30 inches.

    • 3

Determine whether you want a hole in both of the end pieces or just one of them. This is the hole your cat will use to enter and exit the litter box. Cut a hole large enough for your cat to fit through easily.

    • 4

Nail both of the end pieces to the base. Lay the pieces down and drive the nails into the side pieces from the bottom. Make sure the nails are secure and fully seated before proceeding.

    • 5

Cut the 2-by-4 pieces to the height you want for your litter box cabinet. These pieces will serve as the facing for the cabinet doors. Nail those pieces to the front of each side so that they are flush with the sides of the cabinet. Cut two more 2-by-4 pieces to the same length as the cabinet. Place a strip of wood glue on the top of the first 2-by-4, then insert it just under the top of the partially finished cabinet. Nail that piece in place. Lay the other piece on top of the bottom section of the cabinet and nail it into place.

    • 6

Measure the height and length of your partially finished cabinet before making the doors. Cut a piece of plywood to that length and width, then saw the piece in half to create the two doors. Install the knobs and hinges on each of the doors.

    • 7

Cut another piece of plywood to the length and height of the litter box cabinet, then nail that piece to the side opposite the doors. This is the back of your litter box cabinet. Finish by opening the doors and placing the litter box inside.
