Water running from the front of your washing machine is a sign of trouble.

Pooling water beneath your GE front-load washing machine or water running down the front of your machine could be a sign the door gasket is worn and needs to be replaced. Another factor where you might consider replacing the current door gasket would be a buildup of mold in the gasket folds. Cleaning may resolve the issue; but if the mold returns after cleaning, the only solution would be to install a new GE WH08X10036 door gasket. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your GE front-load washer from the wall outlet and pull it away from the wall to access the rear of the machine.

    • 2

Remove the screws along the top back of the machine with a Phillips head screwdriver to release the top cover from the washing machine. Lift the rear of the top cover and pull toward you to remove it from the machine.

    • 3

Move to the front of the washer and pull open the detergent dispenser drawer. Press down on the tab at the back of the drawer to release it from the washer.

    • 4

Look for the screw in the top left-hand corner of the detergent dispenser opening. Remove this screw with the screwdriver.

    • 5

Look on the back of the control panel to locate the four screws that hold the control panel to the washing machine. Remove these screws with the screwdriver.

    • 6

Pop the control panel off the front of the machine. Pull the wiring harnesses from the control panel, which disconnects and releases the panel from the washing machine, or prop it on top of the GE washing machine if the wiring allows.

    • 7

Open the washer door and remove the three Phillips head screws from the front panel that hold the door lock in place. One screw is located above the lock, another below and the third is about 6 to 8 inches above the lock to the left.

    • 8

Look around the outside edge of the washer door gasket for the wire retainer ring. Find the spring on the wire retainer ring. Grab the wire right next to the spring with needle-nose pliers and carefully pull the ring from the gasket.

    • 9

Peel the gasket off the door panel. The edges of the metal are sharp and can cut you so take care when working around them. Pull the gasket away from the opening to access the door lock and push the lock out of the door panel.

    • 10

Remove the bottom panel by taking out the screws along the front bottom of the washing machine. Once you remove the bottom panel, remove the Phillips head screws at each corner of the front door panel.

    • 11

Lift the door panel up and away from the washing machine to expose the concrete weights above and below the washtub. Remove the four nuts from the bolts that hold the weights to the washer with a socket and wrench. Carefully lower the weights to the floor.

    • 12

Pull the soap tube and the door sprayer tube from the gasket. These two tubes are at the top of the original gasket.

    • 13

Look to the right of the gasket for the screw that holds another wire retainer ring to the gasket. Loosen the screw to pull the ring off the gasket. Pull the original gasket from the front of the machine.

    • 14

Find the two small alignment triangles on the replacement washing machine door gasket. Locate these marks at the top and bottom of the gasket. Line these marks up with the small alignment triangles on the top and bottom of the washtub.

    • 15

Install the replacement gasket onto the washtub. Insert the wire retaining ring around the gasket and tighten it to ensure the gasket is secured to the tub.

    • 16

Push the soap tube and door sprayer into the openings on the door gasket. Continue to reassemble your GE front-load washing machine by reversing the disassembly steps.
