How to Make an Easy Twisted Friendship Bracelet

How to Make an Easy Twisted Friendship Bracelet thumbnail
Best friends love having a bracelet just for the two of them.

A twisted friendship bracelet is one of the easiest bracelets to create, making it a good choice for beginners or kids. You first make the friendship bracelet by twisting it in one direction and then twisting it back so that the twist will hold as long as you wear the bracelet. Friendship bracelets are best made with embroidery floss as it twists easily and numerous color choices are available. For friends exchanging the bracelets, try using the same colors in each other’s bracelets, to further emphasize the friendship.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the colors you want for your bracelet. The more strands of floss you add, the thicker your bracelet will be.

    • 2

Cut a 3-foot length of embroidery floss for each color you are using. You will need at least two colors of embroidery floss but you can use up to eight.

    • 3

Gather the strands of embroidery floss together, making sure the ends are even. Tie a knot in one end of the threads, leaving about 2 inches of string before the knot.

    • 4

Tape the binder clip to a counter or tabletop surface. Clip the knotted end of the strands to the binder clip. This will hold the bracelet secure while you twist it.

    • 5

Hold the floss near the top of the bracelet and begin twisting. Move your hand downward as you twist and keep twisting the strands until you reach the bottom of the bracelet. Don't let go of the end or it will untwist at this point.

    • 6

Place your index finger in the center of the bracelet and fold the bracelet in half. Remove your finger and let the bracelet twist itself. The two halves will twist together and look tangled initially. When you smooth the bracelet out, the twists will hold securely and create a double twist in the braid.

    • 7

Smooth out the twisted bracelet. It should look like a twisted rope. At this point, you can let go of the loose end of the bracelet as the twist will stay in place.

    • 8

Tie the loose ends of string together with the knotted end to hold the twist together. Fasten the bracelet around your wrist and enjoy it, or tie it around your friend’s wrist.
