A flower garland is frequently referred to as a lei.

Whether it is an upcoming holiday, birthday celebration, office party, or other ceremony, garlands and streamers are an integral part of any decor. Garlands and streamers can be made inexpensively on any sized budget, and can be saved and reused for future occasions. You can use many supplies lying around your house for making garlands and streamers, such as old pieces of ribbons or wrapping paper. Garlands are frequently hung around the Christmas holiday and often display pine needles, leaves and sometimes flowers. However, your garland can be designed as you like to suit your specific tastes.

Instructions

  1. Streamers

    • 1

Cut a strand of crepe paper. This can be any length you desire, depending on how long you would like your streamer to be.

    • 2

Cut several pieces of ribbon. Run your scissors along each piece to curl the ribbon. Attach each piece of ribbon, evenly space, to your crepe strand from Step 1.

    • 3

Glue on any additional beads or glitter to suit your taste.

    • 4

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for as many additional streamers as you would like.

    Garland

    • 5

Trim each flower head so that they are all uniform and even.

    • 6

Measure a length of thread that is twice as long as the length of garland you would like, plus 10 extra inches for tying knots. Thread your needle into the center of the thread and tie the two loose ends into a knot.

    • 7

Divide your flowers in half. Begin stringing the first half of the flowers inserting the needle down through the head. String the second half of flowers in the opposite direction, inserting the needle from the bottom pushing up though the head of the flower.

    • 8

Tie the two ends of your thread together, forming a circle with your garland.
