How to Change the Bitrate of WAV in Pro Tools

In Pro Tools, you change the bitrate of a WAVE (*.wav) file when you “bounce” the working Pro Tools file to disk. In other words, when you convert a Pro Tools audio session file (*.pts) to the WAV format to save the file to media, the “Set Bitrate” dialog box appears as an option. To change the bitrate of a WAV in Pro Tools, re-save the WAV file and adjust the bitrate in the Save options, as desired.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Pro Tools session file in Pro Tools.

    • 2

Click the “File” option on the top navigation bar, and then click the “Bounce to Disk” option. The Bounce dialog box opens.

    • 3

Click the “BWF (*.wav)” option in the “File Type" box.

    • 4

Type the desired bit rate in the “Resolution” input box. CD quality audio is normally in 16-bit resolution. Professional recordings are normally in 24-bit resolution.

    • 5

Click the “Sample Rate” drop-down box and then click the desired rate. 44100Khz  is normally selected for CD audio.

    • 6

Click the “Bounce” button. The WAV file is created and the bitrate is changed.
