How to Insert a Scroll Box in eBay

How to Insert a Scroll Box in eBay thumbnail
Putting extra care into your eBay auction will help it sell for top-dollar.

When listing an auction on eBay, you can use the built-in description editor to quickly post a simple paragraph about your item. To help spruce up the page and help it stand out, however, eBay also allows editing the description directly in HTML code. One possible use of HTML in a listing is to add scrolling boxes to create separate sections. You can then fill each box with different parts of your description.

Instructions

    • 1

      Visit eBay and click "Sell" to start a new auction listing, or open an existing listing to modify from the "My eBay" page. Fill out the basic information on the item if you're starting a new listing.

    • 2

      Click the "HTML" tab under the "Describe the item you're selling" section. Fill in any description information that you don't want inside the scroll box.

    • 3

      Move to the area in the HTML that you want the box to appear and press "Enter" to start a new line.

    • 4

      Enter the following code into the description:

      <div style="height:##px;width:##px;overflow:scroll;">
      </div>

      Replace both instances of "##" with the horizontal and vertical lengths in pixels you want the scroll box to be, respectively.

    • 5

      Insert one or more new lines between the two lines of code. Enter everything you want to appear in the box on these lines. You can place any other text or HTML code, such as <img> to display images, within the box.

    • 6

      Click "Preview" to check how the box looks in your listing. Adjust the size and contents as necessary; then finish posting your listing as usual.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can wrap the HTML for the box within other HTML tags to modify its appearance. For example, surrounding the box code with <center> and </center> will center it on the page.

  • To use multiple boxes, just paste the code in multiple locations in the description as desired.
