Impress friends, family and Santa too when you hang up homemade felt pieced stockings this year. Felt lends a charming folk art feel to craft projects. Felt is strong enough to hold a bounty of stocking stuffers, yet soft enough for even a novice craft maker to manipulate and sew. Once finished, decorate and personalize the felt stockings for each member of the family with fabric or felt cut-outs, embroidery, markers, glitter glue or fabric paints.
Fold a large piece of felt in half.
Draw the outline of a stocking with tailor's chalk onto one side of the folded felt.
Place pins along the edges of the stocking outline to secure the top layer of felt to the one behind it.
Cut the stocking shape out with a pair of shears.
Thread a needle with embroidery or macrame thread, and blanket stitch the stocking shapes together with their right sides out. Leave the top edge of the stocking open because this will be the opening of the stocking, where gifts and treats are placed.
Fold the top of the stocking down to create a cuff. Use a blanket stitch to trim the bottom edge of the cuff.
Cut a one-half inch by 4-inch strip of felt. Fold the strip in half to form a loop and stitch it inside the cuff on the heel side of the stocking. Use the loop to hang the stocking up.
