How to Make Baby Shower Decorations Out of Tissue Paper
When deciding how to decorate a baby shower, consider using tissue paper. Typically, tissue paper is used to stuff inside bags to hide a gift or wrap a small present; however, it can also serve as a decorative item. Because tissue paper is thin, it is easy to maneuver, cut and manipulate into a specific shape. Transform a room by hanging different color poms around the space, or butterflies to fill the space. Both craft ideas are simple to execute and will grab the attention of guests. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 10 20-inch by 30-inch sheets of tissue paper
- Tape measure
- Floral wire
- Scissors
- Clear fishing line
- 2 sheets of 6-inch by 6-inch tissue paper
- Pipe cleaner
- Pencil
Instructions

Tissue Paper Pom
-
1
Stack 10 sheets of tissue paper measuring 20 inches by 30 inches together. Starting at the end that measures 20 inches, fold the sheets up accordion style in 1-inch increments. To fold accordion style, fold the end of the sheets of paper 1 inch, flip the papers over and fold it inward another inch. Flip the paper, fold another inch and repeat folding until the tissue paper resembled a long, thin rectangle.

2
Measure out a piece of floral wire to measure 10 inches. Fold the wire in half and wrap it around the center of the rectangle. Twist the long ends of the wire together at the base near the tissue paper. Leave the long ends alone -- these will attach to the fishing line at the end of the project.

-
3
Cut the sharp ends of the tissue into a rounded shape. This will help create the ball shape of the tissue pom.
-
4
Separate the tissue paper sheet by sheet. Pull the sheets away from one another carefully. As you pull, shape them into a ball formation. They will naturally fan outward, but you might need to maneuver them to create a ball formation.
-
5
Hang the pom to the ceiling or doorway by attaching clear fishing line to the long wire ends. Create several poms to hang around the room.
Tissue Paper Butterfly
-
6
Measure and cut two pieces of tissue paper 6 inches by 6 inches. Stack the tissue on top of each other.
-
7
Cut the edges of the paper to resemble the wings of a butterfly. The wing shape will vary due to personal preference, but the basic shape resembles a stretched out S. Lay the butterfly shape on a flat surface.
-
8
Fold a 9-inch pipe cleaner, in a coordinating color, around the butterfly shape. The pipe cleaner should slide up the center so the two wings are on either side. Bunch the paper up slightly so there is 1 inch of pipe cleaner extending beyond the tissue on both ends of the pipe cleaner. Twist the ends together.
-
9
Curl the ends of the pipe cleaner by rolling the pipe cleaner around the end of a pencil. Hang the butterflies by wrapping clear fishing line around the center of the pipe cleaner.
