How to Build Your Own Laptop Controlled RC Tank

Radio-controlled machines come in many types such as cars, airplanes, boats and tanks. Controlling the machine is done by using a remote control. However, if you do not want to hold a remote control, you can control the RC tank by using your laptop computer. To do this, you will need to use an RC remote software program with the laptop computer to interface with the remote control.

  • Aux audio cable, male-to-male

      Download the “Audio PPM 0.1.zip” file onto the desktop. Double-click on the file to view its contents and double-click the “Audio PPM” folder.

      Double-click the “AudioPPM.exe” file to install the program on your system.

      Plug one end of the male-to-male aux audio cable into the RC remote's buddy port. Plug the other end of the cable into the headphone port on your laptop.

      Double-click the “Audio PPM” icon on the desktop to run the program. View the indicator for each of the channels. There should be eight channels in total. You RC tank will use two of these channels.

      Slide the indicator bar to increase the signal being sent to the treads of the RC tank. Repeat this step to determine which of the two channels are used to control your tank.
