1
Draw the dress patterns on an old newspaper. The pattern will consist of a front bodice, back bodice, front panel and back panel. Alternatively, buy a ready-made sleeveless dress pattern for little girls.
-
2
Lay the dress pattern over the fabric and pin them on.
-
-
3
Cut the fabric according to the pattern.
-
4
Pin along the waist while attaching the front dress panel to the front bodice. Run a gathering stitch along the pinned areas to create small ruffles as you attach the front bodice to the front dress panel. Do the same with the back bodice piece and the back dress panel.
-
5
Pin the front and back bodice pieces along the shoulder seams with right sides of the fabric together.
-
6
Sew along the side edges of the dress and shoulder seams using a zigzag stitch. Sew along the edges of the sleeves with a serge stitch.
-
7
Cut a strip of contrasting fabric 3 inches wide for the ruffles.
-
8
Pin ruffles a quarter-inch wide along the strip of contrasting fabric. Sew the strip around the bottom of the dress, right sides together with a zigzag stitch to hide the raw edges. Serge the bottom edges of the ruffles for a cleaner finish.
