How to Create Backups From IDM Download Lists

If you use Internet Download Manager (IDM) to queue large downloads for completing later, you may eventually find that you have a large backlog of queued files that you would have difficulty finding again and do not want to lose. For this reason, IDM allows you to back up your download list as a plain text file or using a proprietary format for importing into IDM on another computer. Back up your IDM download list periodically to ensure that you will not lose your pending downloads before finding time to complete them.

  • Launch IDM by double-clicking the desktop shortcut or selecting the icon in the "Internet Download Manager" Start menu folder. After launching, the main area of the IDM window shows your list of pending downloads.

  • Click the "Tasks" heading on the menu in the upper-left corner of the window. If you want your backup to contain only certain files from your download queue, hold the "Ctrl" key while clicking to select the files that you want the list to include.

  • Click "Export" on the expanded menu.

  • Click "To IDM export file" to generate a backup that you can import into IDM on another computer, or click "To text file" to generate a plain text file that you can open in Notepad or another text editor.

  • Click a radio button to indicate which files the backup should contain. You may select "Export download queue" to back up only pending downloads, "Export selected files" to back up only those files that you selected in Step 2 or "Export all files."

  • Click "OK."

  • Navigate in the file browser window to the location where you want to save the backup file. Type a name in the "File Name" field, and then click the "Save" button to create the backup.
