How to Not Make iPhoto Start When the iPhone Is Plugged In thumbnail
The iPhone 4 features a built-in LED flash, 5-megapixel resolution, and HD video recording capability.

By default, iPhoto will open on your computer every time you connect your iPhone to it, whether or not you have images stored on your phone. This can be inconvenient, particularly if you rarely use the camera features on your iPhone or if you have a slow computer and have to wait while the program opens before continuing. A simple change in the preferences of the Image Capture program on your Mac will make your iPhone stop opening iPhoto while still opening the program when you connect other photo devices such as digital cameras.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug your iPhone into a USB port on your computer.

    • 2

Click the "Applications" icon on your computer and click to open Image Capture.

    • 3

Click the "iPhoto" menu at the top of the screen, and select "Preferences."

    • 4

Select your iPhone on the Devices list in the window that opens.

    • 5

Select "No Application" beneath "Connecting this iPhone opens" at the bottom of the screen.

    • 6

Close Image Capture to save your settings.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also change the preferences within iPhoto to not open any applications when you plug in your iPhone, but this means that iPhoto will also not launch when you plug in a digital camera.

  • Your iPhone is not a storage device. If you do not transfer your photos and videos to your computer regularly, you risk losing them.
