Instructions

  1. Shirt

    • 1

Lie on a piece of shipping paper with your arms out at shoulder height.

    • 2

Draw an outline of half your body 3 inches away from your body starting at your neck, going around your arm and down to the middle of your thighs. Repeat with your other side. Have a friend do this if this is to difficult to do alone.

    • 3

Erase the hands on the outline and draw a neckline. Add 4 inches to each side of the thigh area of the shirt and draw a connecting line between the thigh points.

    • 4

Add 6 inches to the width of each upper arm — 3 inches to each side — by drawing a curving line. This will allow for a puffed sleeve.

    • 5

Cut out this paper outline. Set the cutout on the cloth and draw two outlines on it. Cut out the cloth outlines.

    • 6

Draw a crown on one of the cloth cutouts with the fabric pens. Set the fabric pens according to the manufacturer's directions.

    • 7

Flip over the decorated cloth cutout and set it on the other so that the decorated side is facing inward. Sew them together along the edges, but do not sew the wrists, neck or the bottom of edge of the shirt.

    • 8

Hem the wrists, neck and bottom edge of the shirt.

    Cape

    • 9

Place the shirt paper cutout on another large piece of packing paper, and fold in the arms. On each side, 4 inches out from the neckline, draw a diagonal line down 1 foot past the bottom edge of the shirt cutout.

    • 10

Remove the shirt cutout. Draw a concave line to connect the ends of the two diagonal lines near the neck. This makes the neckline of the top of the cape.

    • 11

Draw a connecting convex line to the bottom of the two diagonal lines. This makes the bottom of the cape. Cut out this triangular outline.

    • 12

Place the triangular outline on the colored cloth. Pin the outline in place and cut out the cloth along the edge of the paper outline.

    • 13

Remove the paper cutout. Hem all the edges of the triangular cutout. Sew a length of brocade to each side of the cape's neckline. The two piece of brocade will be what ties the cape to the neck.

    Assembling the Costume

    • 14

Put on the tights and the shirt.

    • 15

Place a scrunchy slightly above each elbow, over the sleeves.

    • 16

Put the belt around your waist and tighten it so it will stay in place.

    • 17

      Don the boots.
