How to Minimize Shedding in Pugs
Pugs are sweet, personable dogs, but their coats can be deceiving. Though their hair is short, pugs shed much more than many would expect. Most dogs molt, or shed a large amount, in the spring and summer or during a heat cycle in females. Pugs are very eager to please their owners, and grooming your pug daily can become a bonding ritual that you both enjoy. You can minimize your pug's shedding with daily coat maintenance that will only take minutes.

1
Shampoo your pug with a shampoo specifically formulated for dogs. Be sure to avoid getting the shampoo in your pug's ears, which will cause infection. Also, be careful to avoid getting shampoo in your pug's large eyes, which will cause irritation.

2
Dry your pug thoroughly with a towel until damp. Allow your pug to air dry for several hours. Your pug should be bathed once or twice a month to wash away the shedding hair and undercoat. If you are in a cold climate, you may use your hair dryer on a low setting to dry your pug.

Brush your pug with a brush designed for dogs. You may be able to purchase a brush that specifically combats shedding. Brush your pug daily to achieve the best results, concentrating on getting the undercoat as well as the top coat. Since pugs are small and have short hair, brushing your pug should only take about five to ten minutes every day.
