A messenger bag is a wonderfully convenient way to lug around all your things without having a purse banging against your hips all day. They tend to be pretty big, however, and sometimes you just need a place for your keys and your phone. Since it's sometimes difficult to find a mini messenger bag in the shops, get creative and make your own with some basic sewing materials and tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two 8-inch squares of fabric. Iron them. Stack them evenly and pin them together on three sides. Stitch them together along the pins, wrong sides together.

    • 2

Flip the open side inside-out, creating a 1/2 inch hem. Pin it in place and iron it flat. Stitch along the hem on each side of the purse.

    • 3

Measure out your strap with a tape measure. Place the end of the tape measure at the middle of the small of your back. Wrap it over one shoulder and around the opposite side of your waist, stopping where you started. Add 2 inches. Cut a 4-inch-wide strip of fabric to this length.

    • 4

Fold the strip in half, creating a long 2-inch-wide strip. The wrong sides should be together. Pin it in place and iron. Stitch it together along the long side, leaving the short ends open.

    • 5

Turn the tube of fabric inside-out with your knitting needle or tube-turner. Pin the ends of the tube to either side of the purse. Stitch in place. Turn the bag right-side out.
