How to Make a Big Messy Bow for a Christmas Tree
Creating homemade decorations for a Christmas tree is an easy way to save money, create a unique look for your tree and bring the family together for a project. A large bow is one such decoration, and can be used in place of a star at the top of the tree, or tied to the ends of branches to create a country Christmas theme. Cut two pieces of wire-edged ribbon that are each approximately 2 feet long. Lay one piece of ribbon on top of the other, so that they match up evenly.

Tie a loose standard bow, keeping the two pieces of ribbon on top of one another. Adjust the size of the bow loops to match the intended location, pulling on the loops to make them larger, or pulling on the ends to make them smaller. When you have achieved an acceptable size, tighten the bow by pulling on the loops and ends at the same time.

Pull the two ribbons in opposite directions in each loop, creating a double bow. Use your fingers to bend the wire in each loop into a circular shape. Shape the ends of the bow into the desired shape, either straightening them or bending them around fingers to create a wavy pattern.

Secure the bow in the tree using metal Christmas ornament hooks. Insert one end of the hook into the knotted part of the bow, and wrap the other end of the hook around the Christmas tree branch you are securing it to.
