How to Make a PLS Playlist on a Mac

How to Make a PLS Playlist on a Mac thumbnail
PLS playlists are computer files that store songs.

A PLS playlist is a computer file consisting of multiple songs that store both the song title and length. These songs files can be downloaded to your Macintosh computer as easily as they can to a PC, creating files that tell media players where songs are on your hard drive and the order in which they are to be played. PLS playlists are easy to make and even easier to listen to.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a new text document by right-clicking on your Mac’s desktop and highlighting the "New" menu with your mouse, then choosing the "Text Document" option.

    • 2

Open the document by selecting the "Open" option.

    • 3

Replace the “[song file]” brackets with the name of the song where it reads “C:\Documents and Settings\Users\Desktop\[songfile]” within the document. So if the song is called “Red Roses,” your line in the document would read:

      C:\Documents and Settings\Users\Desktop\[Red Roses]

Repeat this process with every song you wish to include in the playlist.

    • 4

Scroll to the “File” menu in the document and select “Save As.”

    • 5

Name the document and add a “.pls” file extension at the end. For instance, if you are naming your file “MyPlaylist,” save it as “MyPlaylist.pls.” This makes your PLS playlist ready for use on media players such as iTunes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Follow the same steps on a PC to create a PLS playlist.

  • Downloading copyrighted songs is illegal unless you pay for them.
