How to Assemble a Sofa From Ikea
IKEA is an international home furnishings company that specializes in budget-friendly furniture that can be assembled at home. The furniture is packed in large cardboard boxes and comes with assembly instructions. There are no printed words on most of the instructions. Instead, there are diagrams that illustrate the contents of the package and include a step-by-step illustration as to how to put the furniture together. Unpack everything that is in the cardboard boxes and place the items on a blanket on the floor. Alternatively, flatten the boxes and use them as padding to protect the furniture pieces.

Look in the box to find the instructions that came with your sofa. They are usually printed on both sides of one sheet of paper, although there may be more than one sheet if the sofa has many pieces. If you cannot find the instructions, call the customer service number of your local IKEA store or go to the IKEA website to download them.

Check to be sure that you have all the necessary hardware. The instructions denote the number and type of nuts, bolts and other hardware you need to assemble the sofa. Look for several clear plastic bags of hardware and count the pieces to be sure they are all there.

Inspect all the pieces of your sofa to be sure they are all accounted for. Each item in the box has a sticker attached with a letter on it so you can check it against the instructions. Check to make sure that all pieces are undamaged.

Follow the instructions exactly as illustrated. The instructions will guide you in the correct order that each section should be assembled. Look at the instructions as you finish each section and don't skip any steps. Although some steps may seem intuitive, it's always best to refer to the instruction sheet. If you find that you have set a bolt in backwards or have used the wrong fastener, you may have to backtrack a few steps to make corrections.
