How to Install Opera on Ubuntu

Opera provides free DEB packages of its Web browser for the Ubuntu operating system. You can download the Opera DEB package and install it on your system with the Ubuntu Software Center. The Opera package also installs an Opera software repository on your system. Ubuntu’s Update Manager application uses the Opera software repository to check for new versions of Opera; updates to Opera appear in the Update Manager window along with updates to the other software on your Ubuntu Linux system.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Opera download page at Opera.com/Browser/Download in a Web browser on Ubuntu.

    • 2

Click the “Download Opera” link on the Web page and save the DEB file to your computer.

    • 3

Double-click the downloaded “Opera_[version].deb” file in your Downloads window or on your computer. A Ubuntu Software Center window containing the Opera package appears.

    • 4

Click the “Install” button in the Ubuntu Software Center window to install your downloaded package.

    • 5

Type your password into the password box that appears and click “Authenticate.” Ubuntu Software Center automatically installs Opera and downloads any other packages it requires.
