How to Add Lace to Stockings
Adding lace to plain stockings can dress them up and add flair to any outfit. Lace can also be added to Christmas stockings in order to give them an old-time feel. You can also use ribbon and other material to add decorative trim to stockings.
Instructions

1
Lay out the stockings on a flat surface. If they’re cuffed, roll up the cuffs so that you can measure the opening.
-
2
Measure the opening around the top of the stocking, adding 1/4 inch for overlap.
-
-
3
Cut the lace trim to length and pin the lace around the top of the stocking.
-
4
Set a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine. Holding the stocking tightly between your thumb and finger, stretch it and sew in a forward and back motion every five stitches or so to ensure the seam is locked in.
-
5
Overlap the lace slightly over the stocking as you sew and tuck the extra 1/4-inch lace of overlap under as you near the starting point. Go back and forth over the overlapped lace a couple of times to secure it.
-
6
Trim any hanging threads. If desired, press with a cool iron to set in place.
