How to Avoid Spray Tan Splotches
A spray tan can add definition to your body and make you appear healthier, slimmer and more toned. Additionally, a spray tan eliminates the need to expose yourself to the damaging ultraviolet rays of the sun, which are associated with skin cancer, premature wrinkles and fine lines. To get an even, splotch-free spray tan, start with a clean, smooth base, moisturize frequently and avoid actions that can make your tan uneven. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Exfoliate your skin every other day, two weeks before getting a spray tan. Use a commercial scrub or a soft cotton washcloth to remove dead skin cells. Scrubbing your skin removes dead, dry skin patches that can make your tan uneven.
-
2
Shower before getting a spray tan, to remove any deodorant, perfume and oil from your body. Product residue on your skin can interfere with the tan and make it appear splotchy.

3
Shave prior to getting a spray tan. Avoid shaving after your tan for as long as you can, or at least 12 hours. Shaving exfoliates the skin prematurely, reduces the length of the tan and makes it appear blotchy.
-
4
Wait at least 12 hours after your spray tan before going to the gym, or taking a bath or shower. Sweating and water exposure can remove the tan and cause it to appear blotchy.
-
5
Wear loose clothing on the first day after getting your spray tan. Tight clothes can smudge the tan. Wear old clothing because the tan may stain your clothes.
-
6
Moisturize your tanned skin at least twice a day to prevent splotches. Frequently moisturizing keeps dry skin and skin shedding at bay and therefore helps your tan remain even. Start moisturizing your skin after 12 hours, so your tan has sufficient time to dry. Use a water-based, natural moisturizer to prevent your tan from coming off.
