How to Make a Felt Pumpkin Pie
Even if you can’t bake a pie with any success, you can make a flawless pumpkin pie using felt fabric. Take this pie along to your Thanksgiving dinner and play a prank to the pumpkin enthusiasts at the dinner table. You can also place this faux version on an ornamental pie plate for a table centerpiece as part of an orange-inspired décor. Or, give this ever-lasting pumpkin pie to your child so she can serve it during her next tea party along with other felt foods, such as cupcakes.

- Scissors
- 1/2 yard tan felt
- Pinking shears
- Embroidery needle
- Embroidery floss, orange and tan
- 1 lb. cotton or polyester fill
- 8 inches hook-and-loop fastener, self-adhesive
- 1/2 yard white felt
- Hot glue gun
- 20 brown seed beads
- Sewing needle

Instructions

Assemble the Pie
-
1
Cut out one 10-inch circle from orange felt. Cut it in half. Divide each half into quarters so you have four triangular shapes.
-
2
Cut eight one-by-five-inch rectangles using orange felt. Place a rectangle along each straight side of the orange triangle pieces to make the one-inch-thick sides of each slice. Attach the rectangles to the orange triangles using an embroidery needle and orange embroidery floss using a blanket stitch.

3
Cut out a 12-inch circle from a sheet of tan felt using a pair of pinking shears. Alternatively, use a pair of regular scissors to cut a wavy or scalloped edge around the circle. Cut the tan felt circle in half using scissors. Cut each of the the two halves in half to make four quarters.
-
4
Place the orange felt pieces on the top of the tan felt pieces. Line the unsewn sides of the rectangular portion of the orange felt along the straight edges of the tan felt to form one-inch-thick pie slices. Stitch the orange and tan felt together along the straight edges with tan embroidery floss using a blanket stitch. Leave the curved edges unattached.
-
5
Stuff the pie slices using cotton or polyester fill. Use approximately one handful of fill for each pie slice, which will make the slices full and level rather than stuffed and puffy.
-
6
Sew the curved edges of the orange felt to the tan felt one inch from the upper edge of the tan felt using tan embroidery floss. The one inch of tan felt at the top of the pie is the crust.
Embellish the Pie
-
7
Arrange the four slices of pie together in a circle to form a whole pie. Attach a one-inch square of hook-and-loop fastener that is self-adhesive in between the sides of the four slices.
-
8
Cut four circles that are four inches in diameter from white felt. Fringe the edges of the circles with one-inch long cuts spaced one-quarter inch apart.
-
9
Place each fringed white circle on a flat surface. Fold each of the pieces of fringe over so the ends meet in the center of each circle. Use hot glue to attach these ends in the middle of the circles.
-
10
Attach a one-inch square of self-adhesive hook-and-loop fastener to the top of each white circle to cover where the ends meet. Add the conjoining piece of hook-and-loop fastener to the middle of the top of each of the four slices of pumpkin pie so you can attach the dollops of whipped cream.
-
11
Turn the white circles over so the hook-and-loop fastener is facing down. Sew five brown seed beads randomly over the surface using a sewing needle and brown thread to add a cinnamon garnish.
