How to Install an Air Filter in a American Standard Freedom 80 Gas Furnace

David Clair

The American Standard Freedom 80 Gas Furnace comes with a reusable filter that can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or by washing it with detergent. Instead of reusing the filter, the American Standard Freedom 80 can be used with disposable filters.

The filter prevents allergens from entering the ventilation system.

Disposable filters can be replaced periodically without the need to clean the filter. A clean filter in a gas furnace will allow the furnace to operate better by increasing air flow and keeping the system clean. The filter prevents dust and allergens from entering the ventilation system.

Instructions

  1. Turn the two latches on the blower door one quarter turn clockwise to unlock the blower door.

  2. Tilt the blower door forward to expose the filter.

  3. Push the filter retaining bracket toward the back of the unit. Lift the bracket up to clear it from the filter.

  4. Pull the old filter straight out to remove it.

  5. Insert the new filter into the filter compartment. Ensure the air flow arrow printed on the filter matches the airflow indicator on the furnace.

  6. Push the filter retaining bracket toward the back of the unit. Lower the bracket over the new filter and allow it to lock into place.

  7. Release the blower door to allow it to tilt back into place.

  8. Turn the two latches on the blower door one quarter turn counter-clockwise to lock them into place.
