How to Change the Name of an API Tweet Source

If you use Twitter's API to create your own application, you want the tweets your app's users send to mention that they used your app to send the tweet. Underneath your app user's tweet, "via your app" will display as the source. Twitter uses the name of your application to determine the source to display. To get Twitter to recognize your app as the source of a tweet, register your application.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to Dev.twitter.com and log in to your Twitter account.

    • 2

      Click "Create an App."

    • 3

Enter the name of your app. This is what Twitter displays. You can change it later, if necessary.

    • 4

Enter a description of your app and homepage URL for the app. If appropriate for your app, enter a callback URL.

    • 5

Complete the recaptcha. Click "Create Your Twitter Application." You will see your app's Consumer Key. Place it in the appropriate place in your app's code. The location of the Consumer Key varies depending on your app and the language in which it was created.
