How to Remove a ID3V1 Tag

Digital audio files contain metadata in the form of ID3 tags. These tags contain information about the file, such as the artist, song title and genre. Some files have different versions of the ID3 tagging standard for use with different programs. This means the same file might have ID3V1 and ID3V2 tags. Normally, you don't need to remove tags. However, if the different tag versions contain different information it might cause a problem in some audio programs. In that case, you can use free software to remove the ID3V1 tag.

Download and install ID3 Tag Backup. This program requires you to back up your current tags before you can remove a tag, which means you can recover an ID3V1 tag that you remove if necessary. ID3 Tag Backup requires Microsoft .Net Framework, Version 2.0 to run.

Download and install ID3 Kill. This program has fewer features than other ID3 utilities. However, it can quickly remove ID3V1 tags from several files or just one. To remove tags from one file only, move that file into its own folder and run ID3 Kill on that folder only.
