How to Format a Disk to Meet the ISO 9660 Standard
The ISO 9660 standard sets the rules for optical disc reading such as DVDs and CDs. The Windows operating system meets these standards, and it provides you with a tool to format a CD or DVD that follows the ISO 9660 standard. When you insert a blank disc into the computer's drive, the Windows splash screen displays the option to format the disc for you.

Insert the CD or DVD into the computer's disc drive. A splash screen displays asking you to choose from several options. Click "Burn files to disc using Windows Explorer."

Type a name for the disc. This name displays in Windows Explorer when you insert the disc into the drive. Click "Next."

Click the "With a CD/DVD player" option. Click "Next" to format the disc. After the format completes, the disc drive ejects the disc. You can now copy files to the disc from your hard drive.
