How to Have a Go Green Prize Giveaway at Work
Encouraging your co-workers to "go green" with a prize giveaway at work helps your office become environmentally friendly while educating your colleagues about an eco-conscious lifestyle. Asking coworkers to nominate each other for the top prize lets them take ownership of their office behavior and environmental awareness. Extend your office's eco-friendly efforts beyond the competition by volunteering your group to help clean up a local park or donating office recycling profits to a local conservation society.

1
Post a list of "going green" activities that are applicable to office life in a common space, like a lunch or break room. Bringing dishes instead of using paper plates for lunches, switching out desk lamp bulbs for energy-efficient models and recycling paper are easy green actions that can contribute to an eco-friendly office environment. Place slips of paper and a (recycled) cardboard box near the list.

2
Ask office workers to nominate the colleagues who exemplify a green lifestyle. From organizing an office-wide carpool, volunteering to run soda cans and water bottles to a recycling center or switching out desk supplies with eco-friendly alternatives, encourage co-workers to go green at the office and to nominate those who strive to follow sustainable practices in the workplace. Co-workers can write the name of their nominee and the reasons for nomination on a slip of paper, then place the paper in the envelope. Allow co-workers to nominate each other multiple times; the greener the colleague, the better her chances of winning.

Draw a name at random from the "go green" nomination envelope on a regular basis. Offer a choice of eco-friendly prizes to the winner; gift certificates to a local organic grocery store or gardening supply company, lunch at a restaurant that engages in sustainable food practices, elegant stationery made from recycled paper and toxin-free inks or a desk clock made from up-cycled clocks and re-purposed wood are all office-appropriate and desirable rewards. Many green gifts can be expensive, so you may want to limit drawings to once a month or once a business quarter.
