When you make a sand castle sculpture at the beach, it dries out and crumbles if it the waves don't wash it away first. If you make a sand sculpture at home, there is a way to mix your sand so that your castle sculpture will last a few weeks and even survive a rainstorm. Learn how to make a sand sculpting mixture that is more durable than those made at the beach.
Step 1
Mix your sand. How much you need depends on the size of your sculpture. Blend 10 parts of sand with 3 parts water and 1 part white craft glue.

Step 2
Sculpt the sand. Use sand molds if available to make the bulk of the sculpture, then finish the piece with your hands and tools. If you don't have molds, pile up the sand into a mound about the size of your sculpture, then scrape away or add sand where necessary to sculpt your piece.
Step 3
Let the sculpture dry. Once dry, the sculpture is water resistant and will last for a few weeks before it begins to crumble.
Tip
Plastic knives work well for smoothing surfaces, while pens and paperclips help gouge fine lines in the sand.
