How to Add Pop Unders in a Blogger Generator

Pop under windows, similar to pop-up windows, do not appear in browsers that contain pop-up blocker software. Unlike pop-ups, pop unders open behind a user's window instead of above it. Many Web surfers do not like pop under windows but you still have the ability to add them to sites such as Blogger. All it takes to generate a pop under window is a few lines of JavaScript code and the ability to add a new gadget to one of your Blogger blogs.

  • Navigate to Blogger and log on to your account. Click the "Design" button located next to one of your blog names. Blogger opens the "Edit Layout" page.

  • Click the "Added a Gadget" link on the right side of that page to open the "Add a Gadget" window. This window contains a list of available Blogger gadgets.

  • Click the "Plus" sign next to the gadget named "HTML/JavaScript." A window opens that allows you to add HTML and JavaScript code to a new gadget.

  • Paste the following code into the window's "Content" text box.

    function popup() {
    var url = "ADD URL HERE";;
    popWin =,'popWin');

    Replace "ADD URL HERE" with the URL of the site you want to appear in the pop under window. This code opens a new window and executes the blur function. That function causes the new window to move behind your blog page The window.focus() statement brings your blog page to the front.

  • Type a title for this gadget in the "Title" button, then click "Save" to close the window containing the available gadgets.

  • Click the "Save" button located in the upper right corner of the Editor Layout Page. To preview your blog, click "View Blog." A pop under window opens under your blog page.
