How to Transplant Heads in Photoshop

Transplanting heads is one of many things Photoshop, a graphics editing program, allows you to do. You can take the head from one person and transplant it onto one or more bodies as a prank or you can swap two heads so that each head is on the other person’s body. With a bit of practice, you can swap heads seamlessly in Photoshop so that it is impossible to tell what head belongs on which body.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the image with the heads you want to transplant. Click “File,” then “Open.” Choose the image, then click “OK.”

    • 2

Select the “Pen Tool” from the toolbar. Use the tool to select around the first head you want to transplant including a small portion of the neck, then right-click on the head and select “Make Selection.” Press “Ctrl” and “X” on your keyboard to cut the head.

    • 3

Click the “New Layer” button on the “Layers” panel and type “Head 1“ into the box that appears, then press “OK.” Press “Ctrl” and “V” to paste the head from step two onto the layer.

    • 4

Select the main image layer in the “Layers” panel. Repeat steps two and three to paste the second head into a new layer. You should now have two head layers each with a different head.

    • 5

Select the first head layer. Click the “Move” tool on the toolbar. Click and drag the head layer so that the head is positioned over the body to which you want to attach it. Repeat with the second head layer. Be sure to line the necks up as closely as possible.

    • 6

Select the first head layer. Click “Mode,” then “Adjustments.” Select “Hue/Saturation,” then adjust the sliders until the head’s skin tone matches that of the body. Click “Mode,” then “Adjustments” and select “Brightness and Contrast.” Adjust the sliders until the light and contrast matches that of the body. Repeat with the second head layer.

    • 7

Right click on each head layer and choose “Merge Down.” This will merge the two layers with the main layer so that the heads are part of it.

    • 8

Select the “Zoom” tool. Click on the first head to zoom in on it. Select the “Smudge” tool and use it to blend the neck with the body. Repeat with the second head layer.
