How to Take Out a Florescent Light Tube
Fluorescent lights require careful handling. The tubes contain phosphor powder. The gas inside fluorescent bulbs emits light and the phosphor powder contributes the bright white hue that brightens the light. If a fluorescent tube burns out, change it right away. The gas within the tubes is pressurized and if the tube breaks, it will explode, shattering into many, tiny pieces. Remove the tube properly to avoid the risk of injury. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Turn off the power to the light. Wait 20 to 30 minutes for the bulb to cool.
-
2
Put on a pair of gloves to protect your hands in case the bulb shatters. Fluorescent bulbs are fragile and may shatter at any time.

-
3
Secure a ladder beneath the light if necessary to reach the bulb. Remove the screws from either end of the fixture cover if necessary. Lift the cover away from the light fixture.
-
4
Grasp each end of the tube and turn it a quarter-turn clockwise. The tabs on the ends of the bulb should line up with the slots on either end of the mount. Slide the bulb straight out through the slots to remove it. Lower it carefully to avoid cracking it.
