How to Cite Pictures on a PowerPoint if There Is No Date or Name

To avoid plagiarism, authors cite the information they use, whether that information be text or images. The nature of text makes it fairly straightforward to cite. Images, on the other hand, aren’t always so easy to cite. In the Internet age, it is easy for websites to use images without attribution information. Because the actual citation formatting of images depends on the writing style you are using, such as APA or MLA, the actual task becomes finding as much information as possible to put in your citation.

Instructions

    • 1

Note the name of the website you are visiting. In the absence of an image credit, you will credit the image to the organization hosting the image. For example, if you have an image of a hot-air balloon, you would use the organization’s name, such as Balloons R Us.

    • 2

Right-click on the image and choose "Copy Image Location" from the menu.

    • 3

Open a new tab by keying "Ctrl" and "T." Paste the copied link into the URL bar by keying "Ctrl" and "V." Hit "Enter." This will open the image in a tab by itself.

    • 4

Note the URL of the image. Copy it by keying "Ctrl" and "L" to highlight the URL. Key "Ctrl" and "C" to copy the URL. Key in "Ctrl" and "V" to paste the URL into your document.

    • 5

Note the name of the image, which will be across the top of the browser in the page title area.

    • 6

Note the date you accessed the image. As images might not stay at some URLs permanently, noting the date you accessed the image acts as a time stamp.

    • 7

Format the information you have gathered according to the style citations guidelines for the writing style you are using for the PowerPoint presentation.
