1
Select a vessel for your bud vase. Purchase an actual bud vase, or use a small container for a handmade, chic touch. Vintage bottles, sea glass containers, tiny juice bottles, vintage tins and antique teacups, or china vessels work well.

2
Purchase or cut the flowers for your bud vase. Bud vases typically hold one large blossom, or two or three smaller flowers at most. Choose a large red rose for a classic arrangement, or use a color that contrasts with the vase color. For instance, offset a clear blue vase with a bold orange poppy blossom. Pair the single stem with a flower in a second accent color, such as lime green button mums. Pink and red work especially well for Valentine's day.

3
Place pebbles or marbles in the bud vase, if desired. This works to spruce up clear, simple bud vases. Flower petals also work, or arrange a bunch of green stems in a swirling pattern. Cover a plastic vase with contact paper or decals, or hand-paint the vase to decorate it.

4
Place the flowers inside the vase. Add cool water, and leave an inch or two of space at the top of the vase. Arrange the flowers for a balanced look. Use flowers cut at various heights and with a variety of texture.
-
5
Tie a ribbon around the bottle's neck. Use a thick satin ribbon, thin velvet or twine for a rustic look. If the vase is small, leave the vase as is for a simple and classy arrangement.
-
6
Attach a handwritten tag or note card in a color or pattern that complements the arrangement. Add a stamp, tiny hand-drawn lovebird or other detail.
