Research dish styles that reflect the period of your dollhouse.

Polymer clay is a plastic-based material that can be baked in a household oven to harden. It comes in a wide variety of colors and finishes, including metallic and pearlescent. Polymer clay is an excellent medium for making accessories for your dollhouse. When considering dishes to make for your dollhouse, don't limit yourself to cups and plates -- also think about pots and pans, cake plates with miniature cakes or cupcakes, silverware and teapots.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide which dishes you will make. Find pictures or use your own dishes for reference.

    • 2

Soften the polymer clay by rolling and kneading the material between your palms. When the clay is highly pliable, tear off a small piece and form it into a ball.

    • 3

Shape the clay into the dish you are making. Use your fingers for creating the general shape. For a bowl, hold the ball of clay in your palm, and depress the middle with your finger. For a plate, press the ball into a flat disc and then pull the sides up just a little. For cups, glasses or other deeper dishes, use a toothpick or other small tool to help shape the inside. Roll the clay into a long, thin rope for cup handles or silverware stems. Adhere these by gently melding the clay with a toothpick or other small tool.

Bake in the oven according to the directions on the package. If you don't have the packaging, try baking them at 275 degrees for 30 minutes per 1/4-inch of thickness.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use metallic polymer clay for silverware, pots and pans.
