How to Make a Shanty out of a Cardboard Box
According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, "approximately 3.5 million people experience homelessness in the United States each year." You can do your part by building a cardboard shanty to spend the night for a fundraiser, which raises awareness about the plight of the nation's homeless. Your community will appreciate your effort and you will raise money for a good cause. All you need is a cardboard box and an afternoon to construct a shanty to help the homeless.

1
Choose the box size for your shanty. Furniture stores have large boxes that are suitable.
-
2
Turn the box upside down to duct tape any holes and seams, which will help protect you from the elements.
-

3
Cut air holes or make-shift windows in the sides of your box. You will be able to see your surroundings. This also will allow air to circulate.
-
4
Cut a piece of tarp to secure to the top of the box with duct tape. This is your roof.
