How to Make Widgets Permanent on a Mac
Mac OS X places Dashboard widgets in their own separate screen. By default this is an overlay screen in versions of Mac OS X up through 10.6 Snow Leopard, and in a separate virtual screen, called a "Space," to the left of all others in 10.7 Lion. A change to a hidden system setting will allow you to drag widgets off of the Dashboard into your regular work areas.
