Instructions

Lighting
-
1
Install a hanging light from the ceiling to add additional light to the space, if you have an overhead fixture.
-
2
Replace light bulbs in overhead lighting and lamps as they burn out to keep the space well-lit. Dust bulbs and light fixtures regularly to keep them bright.
-
-
3
Place a table lamp on a foyer table for a soft glow in the evening.
Walls
-
4
Paint the walls of your foyer a light, bright color that coordinates or complements your home decor. White, off-white and light yellow reflect light and add to the brightness of the space.
-
5
Paint dark woodwork white to open up the space and give a clean, bright look to the hallway. Include chair rails, crown molding and stair railings.
-
6
Hang a large wall mirror above a hallway table. The mirror will reflect light to keep the space bright and make it appear larger.
Floors
-
7
Install light-colored hardwood or ceramic tile flooring instead of carpeting. It is easier to keep clean than carpet when visitors come in with dirty feet.
-
8
Keep hard surface flooring clean, dust-free and shining. If the flooring has a shine to it, your space will seem brighter.
-
9
Place light-colored area rugs on the floors to soften the look.
