How to Protect President Kimball in "Fallout: New Vegas"
In "Fallout: New Vegas," the NCR (New California Republic) is the official military presence in the Mojave Wasteland, and you can ally yourself with them or fight them as an enemy. If you prove your worth to the NCR, you get the mission titled "You'll Know It When It Happens." In this mission, President Kimball is due to visit the Hoover Dam and give an encouraging speech. The NCR fears an assassination attempt, and they ask for your help. You can protect President Kimball in several ways depending on your character's skills.

Go inside the Hoover Dam Visitor's Center when the quest starts. Talk to Ranger Grant, the man behind the desk. If you have a good reputation with the NCR, you get permission to enter restricted areas or use your weapons. When you tell Grant that you are ready, the President's helicopter arrives.

Hack the computer on the desk if you have a Science skill of 50 or higher. The computer contains information about a potential sniper attack. Go outside and go up the ladder to reach the roof of the nearby tower. Talk to the sniper and kill him when he attacks. Tell Grant about the assassination attempt, and the President flees the area.

Head to the landing area on the Visitor's Center roof if you have an Explosives or Repair skill of 50 or higher. If you didn't convince Grant to let you on the roof, talk to the guard to gain access with your Speech skill over 50.

Search the helicopter to receive a message about a planted bomb. Select "Repair" if you have a high Repair skill or "Disarm" if you have a high Explosive skill. Talk to Grant, and the President evacuates safely.

Observe the engineers in the area if you have a high Sneak skill. Watch the engineer who approaches the speech platform. Pick his pocket to find the Redundant Detonator. Take it back to Grant to save the President.

Save your game before trying this mission. If something goes wrong and the President is assassinated, reload and try again.
