How to Give a Bob Haircut Body
Classic bob haircuts are sharp and sophisticated yet easy to style. Inspired by the modern structured haircutting of the 1920s, today’s bobs have been adapted to take on different cutting techniques and fashion looks. While having a basic cut that suits you, hair is still key to the perfect bob; you can use quick modern styling techniques to give hair body without making a fuss of this polished style. Does this Spark an idea?

- Lightweight curl boosting cream

- Radial brush
- Lightweight shine spray or serum

Instructions
-
Straight Blunt Cut
-
1
Wash hair and condition it with a lightweight detangler.
-
2
Spritz a little volumizing blow-dry spray into the roots. This swells in the heat from the dryer and gives root lift, which achieves natural-looking volume.
-
-
3
Blow-dry hair, keeping the nozzle angled down the hair shaft while lifting and brushing it through from underneath with the paddle or radial brush. A paddle brush helps give a poker straight finish while a radial brush creates a rounded looking bob. If using a radial brush, wrap hair around the brush so that the ends curl under. This classic 1980s way to style a straight bob also gives a little extra volume.
-
4
Complement a smooth straight-cut bob with a very small amount of shine spray or lightweight serum. Run palms over the length of the hair to give a gloss that does not compromise volume.
Curly Bob
-
5
Wash hair and use a lightweight but nourishing conditioner. Pay special attention to curly ends, which often get really dry.
-
6
Work a dab of lightweight curl-enhancing cream through hair and twist each curl, or section of hair, into a loose spiral. This encourages it to curl neatly rather than becoming frizzy.
-
7
Blow-dry hair with the diffuser attachment sitting the ends of hair into the dish and warm gently until dry. This envelops curls in warm air so that they dry bouncy and volumized. Sit the ends of hair into the dish and warm gently until dry.
Layered Cut
-
8
Spritz volumizing spray into clean, damp hair.
-
9
Blow-dry roughly with a paddle brush or even style with fingers if you like a tousled look.
-
10
Arrange hair with fingers, gently fluffing it up at the roots and pushing the layers to show off the cut. Layers can be used to boost volume, so playing with these to get a mussed-up look is easy.
-
11
Pull a little lightweight putty or matte styling paste through sections of hair around the ends. This gives separation and texture, further boosting volume without the heaviness of wax.

Tips & Warnings
If you have overloaded fine hair with product, get your volume back by spritzing a little dry shampoo into the roots. Leave this to soak up the excess oil for a moment then brush out.
Different cutting techniques, such as feathering and undercutting, can really boost volume in fine hair, so ask about these when you have your hair cut.
Do not fiddle with curly hair until it is totally dry or your bob may look frizzy and wavy instead of being a mass of soft, tactile, chunky Clara Bow curls. Excessive scrunching while diffusing can lead to a ‘90s style scrunch-dry look that does not suit the neat cut of a bob.
