How to Make a Pokemon Trading Card Deck
The Pokemon Trading Card Game allows you to go head to head with a friend in a two-person Pokemon showdown. Before you can start pitting your cards against your friends', however, you have to build your first Pokemon trading card deck. A deck is made up of exactly 60 cards, so you want to have plenty of cards on hand to choose from.

Choose a theme for your deck. Potential themes include Pokemon types, such as Fire type or Psychic type, and specific Pokemon, such as Pikachu or Diglet. What theme you choose determines what type of Energy card you need to include with your deck. For example, if you decide to build a fire-themed deck, use Fire Basic Energy cards, while if you create a deck that revolves around the different incarnations of Pikachu, use Lightning Basic Energy cards.

Add at least 30 Basic Energy cards of the appropriate type to your deck.

Add 10 Trainer cards to your deck. Which Trainer cards you add depends on your strategy. For example, Super Potions will keep your Pokemon in good health, but since they require you to spend your Basic Energy cards, you may not want to use them.

Pick 20 Pokemon cards for your deck. Your Pokemon should correspond in type to your theme and the type of Basic Energy. About two-thirds of your Pokemon should be Basic, or unevolved, Pokemon, while the other third should be evolved Pokemon.
